FOCUS – Follow One Course Until Successful

By October 14, 2016 No Comments

Being an entrepreneur is somewhat of a contradiction.  You have to be able to scan for new opportunities, and focus all on a limited number of projects at the same time.  The temptation to change directions will inevitably rear its ugly head.  It’s hard to stick to your guns – people will question your vision, new ideas will come up, or a quick buck will be there for the taking.  Of course, the temptation to change direction is usually the strongest when you’re a few yards short of the goal.

Most entrepreneurs are genetically programmed to say yes to new opportunities.  This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  After all, it’s your tendency to say “yes” that got you to where you are today.  But it can also hold you back if you’re not careful.  Every time you step off the path to your ultimate goal, you will have to retrace your steps.

The divide and conquer approach doesn’t work with startups. Your resources are so limited that you have to focus everything you’ve got on your biggest opportunity.  Follow one course until you’re successful, and only then move on to the next project.
